I spent a day on Toronto Island with my sister and Aunt this week.

Part of what I love about the island is feeling so far from the bustle and concrete  of downtown, without actually having to leave the city limits

There’s the famous CN Tower in the background, looking rather wee.

There were an extraordinary number of spiders in the residential area; I think they must have have a good year.

Do please biggify that one - you really can’t appreciate the sunlight playing on the webs at this resolution.

And I would be remiss if I neglected to post this fantastic custom bike costume that we saw on the ferry.  Apparently the young lady’s boyfriend made it for her.  It was originally a tiger, but then its head fell off

Another Friday, another session on the pottery wheel.

Eventually I’m going to be able to do something really cool with this stuff.  For now, I’m positively gleeful that I can make a half-decent serving bowl:

These are a fair bit bigger than the 3 bowls I threw last week, and I did a much better job of trimming the bottoms before they came off the wheel.  My goal is to some day make something which my mom (an accomplished potter in her youth) can look at and honestly say it’s good.  Not that she doesn’t tell me everything I do is wonderful, but I’d like to feel like she’s not just being a good mom

Next week I’ll be glazing the three bowls I threw last week, so expect an update with more photos.

This is one of the best things I’ve ever seen in my entire life.
