Ack, I dropped off the face of the earth.  Sorry about that.  A midterm, a couple of nasty lab reports, creation of a new website for my mom’s new business (will link when it’s got some proper content), and a ridiculous amount of course work later, I have finally managed to get enough time to make a post.  Huzzah!

Exciting Gypsy moth news - a few of them emerged from their pupae this week!

I stuck this male in the freezer for a bit to slow him down for photos, since we don’t want stray males flying about the building:

The female didn’t get the same treatment at first, since they’re too fat to fly, but I discovered that they can crawl well enough:

After that one crawled onto the camera lens several times, I decided to put her on ice for a moment, and she cooperated nicely after that:

That title would have been way better if pupae had feet.

Gypsy moth pupae from the greenhouse experiment, natch.

Another pottery night! I’ve been remiss in my pottery posting - I’ve made a few pieces since my last pottery photo upload, but haven’t got around to taking proper shots of any of it yet.
Tonight I started Christmas gifts! Okay, maybe it’s a bit early, but as I intend to make pottery gifts for everyone this year, and I can only go every week or two, I thought I’d best get started. Mom’s gift us going to be a coaster set. I can’t decide how many to make; 6, 8, or 12. If you know how many generally come in a set, do post and let me know. I made 6 tonight. They should be a good opportunity to play with the glazes.

I also glazed a few pieces that I made last week, so here’s the pre-firing glaze shot. The reddish colours will end up brown, and the two tones of grey on the bowl should produce some interesting interactions. I hope. One never knows, with glazing.
