We have gypsy moth caterpillars!
For your viewing pleasure, the latest additions to the greenhouse:
The big dark guys are second instar cats, having recently molted. The greasy looking tan fellas are first instars, getting ready to molt. There are a few darkish small ones in the lower left of the photo; those are first instar, but aren’t ready to molt yet.
Note the wee pigtails on either side of their little faces - the gal I’m working for on this project claims that this is their cutest feature.
It’s nice to know I’m not alone in thinking the buggers are adorable XD
In other news, the first few forest tent moths emerged the other day, and one has gone ahead and laid some egg masses.
